Wisconsin...Welcome to Your Mission Field!

You see the needs, but how do you meet them?

The Southern Baptist Convention has been involved with Literacy Missions for 50 years!  There is a wealth of experience
within the convention that can equip you to minister effectively to the people in your community!

  • Adult Reading & Writing Intentionally share Jesus Christ as you teach adults to read and write!

Do you know of adults in your community that need help with their reading and writing?  You may not be aware of the need in our state, because most will do their best to hide it.  I was recently surprised when a woman came up to me after I had shared with a congregation about literacy missions that she had been an illiterate adult.  Had it not been for a person who loved her enough to help her, she may have remained that way.   An Adult Reading & Writing workshop will equip you to evaluate reading levels & teach adults to read and write. It will equip you to start and maintain a successful ministry.  And it will equip you to share your faith as you minister to your students' needs!

  • Tutoring Children & Youth Intentionally share Jesus Christ as you help kids and teens that are struggling with their schoolwork!

How many kids and teens do you know that struggle with their schoolwork?  Statistics show that a child who can read by 3rd grade is unlikely to ever encounter our criminal justice system.  What a difference you can make in a child's future!  You can impact entire families and communities!  A Tutoring Children & Youth workshop will equip you to tutor kids and teens in reading, writing, and mathematics.  It will also equip you to share your faith as you minister!

  • English as a Second Language Intentionally share Jesus Christ as you teach internationals the English language!

The international population in our state is growing.  The Hispanic population alone is increasing by 8.5% a year.  Many immigrants here in Wisconsin recognize their need to learn English.  You have an opportunity to minister to the strangers in our midst.   An English as a Second Language workshop will equip you to teach English.  It will equip you to start and maintain an ESL ministry.  Most importantly, it will equip you to share your faith with your students as you minister to their needs!  You do not need to speak a foreign language or have prior teaching experience!

How can you get involved?

  • Step 1:  Get more information!  Contact us.   Spread the word within your church.  This may include having a Literacy Missions Coordinator speak at your church, Bible study, or at an associational meeting.  Conduct a literacy needs survey to find out what is really needed in your community!   The North American Mission Board has developed a helpful guide in doing this:  Literacy Needs Survey.
  • Step 2:  Schedule a workshop!  Each workshop is 16-hours...and will equip you to answer God's call!  We have a NAMB-certified ESL workshop leader here in Wisconsin.  There are Adult Reading & Writing and Tutoring Children & Youth workshop leaders in neighboring states.  Contact us and we will make the arrangements to schedule a workshop at your church or association.
